Cologne, Berlin, 03.09.2014 – As developer partner of Deutsche Telekom, GreenPocket has already launched several smart home products for the Qivicon platform, amongst others for Vattenfall and the Italian Urmet Group. At this year’s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA), GreenPocket will present a new version of its application. The new application is platform-independent and includes location-based services.
Smart home is one of the key subjects at the IFA 2014 in Berlin. But which smart home platform will ultimately establish itself in the market remains an open question. The Cologne-based software company GreenPocket will therefore present a platform-independent solution of its smart home software. The application is based on the OSGi framework and is compatible with the Qivicon platform as well as with other smart home gateways.
The main target markets for the GreenPocket smart home solution are utilities and service providers which want to offer their customers an all-in-one smart home software. In contrast to other smart home providers, GreenPocket is employing a B2B business model. Its software is available as a white label product which is licensed to customers. Design and features can be customized according to their wishes. The hardware and gateway are selected in cooperation and are provided by third party suppliers.
The advantage for the consumer is that the application can be extended by additional hardware. Lighting installations or alarm systems can easily be controlled via smart phone or tablet. Current customers of GreenPocket are Vattenfall and the Urmet Group. The smart home products of both companies are already available in the market.
Currently, GreenPocket is working on adapting its platform-independent smart home app to the open source platform Eclipse SmartHome. As soon as Apple’s new operating system iOS 8 becomes available, GreenPocket aims to tailor its solution to Apple’s newly launched smart home framework HomeKit. This technological independence enables utilities and service providers to gear their smart home offering towards the long-term and refine it gradually without inhibiting its adoption by consumers through system-inherent hurdles.
The new version also includes location-based services. The software detects whenever the user leaves the house or is on the way home. This way, for example, the heating function can be coupled with the presence or absence of the residents.
Dr. Thomas Goette, CEO of GreenPocket, will present the company’s smart home software on Friday, the 5th of September 2014 at 1.00 pm, at the TecWatch Forum (hall 11.1). Visitors of the IFA can also test the application at the company’s booth (hall 11.1, booth 3) and register as beta users.
