(Landshut) In early March, hectec GmbH began deliveries of version 3.5 of its mediCAD Classic digital planning program. The new version contains numerous expansions developed in response to suggestions from orthopedic surgeons who use the software every day.
Large numbers of orthopedic clinics and practices use mediCAD for pre-op planning. According to Jörn Seel, Managing Director of hectec GmbH, „About 3600 clinics, representing about 10,000 doctors around the world, use mediCAD. We’ve been developing mediCAD continuously for 20 years, but there are always ways to improve it and new functions to add.“ Version 3.5, for instance, enables planning with CT images, which increasingly contain highly precise dimensions. Real-size exposure images are imported into the program and then scaled automatically with extraordinary precision. Once the doctor stores a planning session, the planning data are supplemented with specifications of the implant to be used, for example. When the planning is printed, the print date also appears on the list. Doctors planning knee corrections can now proceed in two steps: first the basic and comprehensive corrections, then the detailed corrections. The display of a grid on top of every image is another new feature that came directly from everyday users of the software. A collaborative development effort with mediDOK now integrates this image and document archive and can be purchased from all mediDOK partners.
Special features of mediCAD include bilateral deformity corrections according to Dror Paley, automated corrective osteotomies near the hip joint, intertrochanteric osteotomies for planning operative extensions of the femoral head into the joint socket on patients with hip joint dysplasia, direct transfer of all planning data directly to EndoDok, and automatic detection of the calibration sphere, saving the surgeon the need to scale the image. The software integrates mobile devices, giving doctors immediate access to planning data from virtually anywhere. hectec plans to start deliveries of 3D mediCAD Hips/Spinal Column in 2015. Hospitals that are interested in the solution can start becoming acquainted with the software now.
hectec GmbH has been continuously developing its mediCAD Classic planning solution since 1994. This digital solution integrates all planning methods and documents processes for legal security. mediCAD Classic is distributed exclusively through authorized partners. As of early 2015, hectec GmbH collaborates with 120 sales partners around the world. Approximately 3,600 hospitals currently use the solution. It is based on a database of implants that contains items from more than 110 manufacturers. In addition to implants, the surgeon has access to an extensive selection of osteosyntheses for planning in mediCAD. Besides its classic 2-D solution, hectec also offers 3-D planning software and a solution for mobile devices.
