The standard version 2.2 of the eXtra4 software aims at customers not using a stock management system. With its new module, Ferdinand Eisele is now deliberately approaching the bigger companies in the jewellery and watch sector. If they are wholesalers, retailers or manufacturers – they all have large data pools. To handle them, they often use sector-independent merchandise management systems based on large client/server databases.

The missing sector focus of these large systems shows its disadvantages latest when it comes to label printing: Particularly here, considerable problems occur that can only be solved in a most laborious way using the existing measures- if ever. This is where the new eXtra4 module comes in.
The „client/server databases“ module has been specifically designed to large databases such as MS-SQL-Server, MySQL, Firebird, Interbase, PostgreSQL and Oracle. It accesses the local data directly when printing labels. This data access will be individually established in cooperation with the customer“s IT Manager and the eXtra4 support.

With the usual master data it will then be possible to fetch and print selected labels. Moreover, automated and event-controlled label printing can also be done. For example, labels can automatically be generated when logging in purchases or logging out sales if the IT management provides corresponding transaction data.

When realising such a project, large distances in worldwide use are no obstacle despite its complexness. „Just recently, we have carried out label printing for a renowned jeweller in Canada from a client-server-database not even having one of our employees personally on their site“, reports Alex Schickel, Ferdinand Eisele GmbH“s General Manager. „The customer approached us during Baselworld and asked for an SAP Business one-solution. Later, he let us have an online extract from his data pool providing the relevant data for labelling. With these we were able to simulate the customer“s server in-house and establish the corresponding access to the data.“

As soon as the labels can be printed in the simulation, the individual parameters are transmitted to the customer and/or they are given online access for downloading. „The recent options of remote administration do in most cases no longer require personal presence. Our experts can realise label printing all over the world in a remote manner today,“ Mr Schickel explains.

eXtra4 label printing software is permanently being further developed at Ferdinand Eisele GmbH. The current version is always available for download at www.extra4.com – even free of charge over a period of several years within a major release. Test versions with limited runtime are permanently downloadable at no cost. For those who do not wish to do without personal contact despite the many remote options: You can meet us soon at upcoming Inhorgenta in Munich: hall A2, booth no. 405.
